Oma's take on Naivasha

My pics didn't load in the order I liked, and the email was suppose to come first and it took 3 days of attempts just to get this far, so be it!

Getting fitted? With life jackets. Oma was pretty sure they would sink.

Hippos from afar! A family of about 15 with one male in the middle.

Variety of birds on the shore of crescent island.

Chloe falling asleep with her oversized life jacket.

Caleb and Levi shivering.

Python sleeping in the reeds.

I am posting emails from Oma about her time here. They won't be in order.

This weekend we went to Naivasha, we left Fri. morning and came home on Sunday at 3 p.m. we had a great time.

Friday we arrived their at noon, its about 1 1/2 hours from Nairobi, we ate a picnic lunch at a place called Crescent Island, Dawn packed a really nice picnic and we sat outside on a blanket, the weather was great. Then at 1:30 our guide(mombia) came and took us on a 2-1/2 hour walk around the island. The Kids did great. It was quite warm(we all got sunburn) but it was nice. we walked and walked and walked. Caleb and Levi were great troopers( better than oma) Chloe slept on Dawn's shoulder and Ryan, Moombia took turns carrying Seth. But we seen HIPPO's got within 20 feet of three girrafe) saw zebra, and all kinds of wildebeest, and several other kinds of animals in the deer family.. LOts of birds, there were people on vacation in boats with camera with 30inch lens zooming in on the birds, The bird watcher people were more interested in the birds than the hippos. We were walking back following out guide and went down to the water and see two huge hippos on shore, they were only about 50 ft. from us. when they heard us they went in the water abut most of us got a really good look, that was the best part of the day for me.

We arrived at our cottage at about 5:30, it was way in the boonies but really really nice. it could sleep 10 people, had a nice open patio in the back yard and we spent most of saturday sitting around, eating cookies and rice krispie bars. Ryan, Caleb and Levi did tons of exploring and at night all the kids were sleeping by 8 p.m. They loved it

Today(Sunday) we went to a hippo safari boat place and rented a boat with a driver and went to look for hippos. We seen a family of 28 with 1 male and 27 females with a bachelor about 100ft. away, he wasn't part of the family because their is only one male to all the females. We went about an hour and seen five or six different areas were hippos were. the kids loved it i have great pictures, the life jackets they wore were so big they could have dragged them to the bottom instead of helping them float.

We took an hour ride and then had another picnic lunch and headed for home. We had a great time and a nice weekend together. love dar
